Stockist Spotlight: Eco Living Ideas
So Jen tell us a little about yourself...
Hi I'm Jen, founder and owner of Eco Living Ideas. I’m a Mum to two wonderful girls and a Labrador and wife to a very supportive Husband. We have just made the move from York to Shawbury.
I started my own eco journey at the beginning of 2018, just before our second Daughter was born. The first changes for our family were washable wipes, cloth nappies, washable make-up remover pads and eco bricks.
What inspired you to start Eco Living Ideas?
After starting my own waste reduction journey, my friends and family kept coming to me for advice on how to make changes in their lives that were plastic free, zero waste or simply better for the environment.
I spent a lot of time researching different products, homemade alternatives and community groups to get the answers, and my passion for the subject grew and grew. I love researching new product ideas, finding the best suppliers at the best prices and passing those wonderful products on to my customers at an affordable rate.
Tell us about Eco Living Ideas
I am now based in Shawbury but started the business in September 2018 in York (my hubby is in the RAF so we move around a bit). For this reason most of my work is done online through the website www.ecolivingideas.co.uk but I love having pop up stalls at fairs and events so I get to meet customers and pass on my enthusiasm of the products I sell.
Alongside the shop, I run a community group on Facebook (Eco Living Community), which is a safe place for people to share ideas, hints and tips and ask questions on all things eco. I set a monthly “challenge”, which is a great focus for the group and helps people tackle one area of their lives at a time.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to reduce their waste?
Take it slowly. Doing too much at once can be over-whelming and off-putting. Set yourself a target of making one-two switches each month. They quickly add up.
Another thing is to do a waste audit. See what you are throwing out each day and write it down then look through after a couple of weeks and see how you can improve. (Check out Little Green Wood's blog on food waste for inspiration!)
What are your most popular products?
Definitely our Bees Wax Wraps, Natural Deo and the lovely Little Green Wood make-up wipes (which i use everyday!). However, we have also just added some new goodies too including Conscious chocolate (yum!), reusable snack pockets and reusable swim nappies (how cute are the frogs!). I'm looking forward to trying the Little Green Wood Unpaper Towels too!
Thanks Jen for taking part, we look forward to seeing more hints and tips to reducing waste on your community page and hope Shawbury gets involved!
